Spring is Renewal!

Greetings! We know you are knee deep in the Spring Semester but remember: You are not alone!

There is a lot of activity brewing with the BEST Center as we head toward the end of our fourth grant-funded year. Here are some highlights:

Mark D'Allesandro and Robert McNabb

HVACR Educators Conference

Larry Chang, BEST Center, and Jeryll McWhorter, GPTC, present Campus as a Living Lab: New Opportunities for HVACR Education at the National HVACR Educators and Trainers Conference from March 21-23, 2016 in Las Vegas. The living lab provides opportunities for students to gain real-world experiences on equipment often not available in the classroom.

Career Video Distribution

A career video will be made available soon in long and short versions to promote your programs. Already some colleges are streaming an early version for new audiences. On a recent Collaboration call, we brainstormed ideas on how to distribute the videos and how to receive a customized version. Read more.

Marketing Webinar

For more marketing ideas, Chris Miller of Heartland Community College, Robert McNabb of Laramie County CC, and Renee Tomlinson of ESCO Group will present on Marketing Your Building Science Program. The webinar will be on Wednesday, April 27. More info to follow.

BAS V

Save the date! Our next workshop in Building Automation Systems (BAS) will be at Georgia Piedmont Technical College from June 8-11. Mark your calendars! More information to follow.

Annual Institute

The Annual Institute in January hosted 31 colleges from around the country and featured insightful presentations about the future of building energy efficiency, past and future BAS technologies, advanced lighting strategies, and the potential of fault detection and diagnostics, to name a few. Check out videos and presentations from the 2016 Annual Institute.

Annual Survey

Active members have been invited to respond to our annual survey so we can receive feedback on our work and better understand individual program progress. Member involvement and feedback is critical as we prepare for year-end reports. We are grateful for the responses received and encourage all submissions to be completed no later than March 14.

Ground Breaking

BEST Center joined Peralta Community College District and Laney College in a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on a new set of buildings to be known as the BEST Center, an Ultra-Low Energy Building that will also house the BEST Center offices. Read more.

CABA

As part of our renewed membership with CABA (Continental Automated Building Association) we are pleased to offer our faculty network a special code to access timely research reports. Please email Larry Chang at laneyect@gmail.com.

Available Reports

Bestctr.org is populated with tons of information and reports to help with your programs like our Case Studies of Facilities Management and Operations Best Practices and Current Situation and Trends in Building and Facility Operations. We also added HVAC Workforce Development Foundation’s recent Labor Analysis Report. Check them out.

As always, please contact us if you are in need of support and resources to advance your HVAC and building automation programs.
